Westerlands Cross Country Club

Web: http://www.westerlandsccc.co.uk

Westerlands Cross Country Club (aka Westies) is a small to medium-sized running club formed in the west end of Glasgow that specialises in hill and off-road running. We also enjoy regular curry nights which we take as seriously as running.

The club was founded in 1977 for postgraduates of Glasgow University who wanted to continue competing in cross-country and took its name from the old Glasgow University Sports Ground at Anniesland. This facility no longer exists since the playing fields were sold off to property developers in the mid-1990s, but the club lives on.

All of our runs can be found on the calendar on our website and we welcome members of all abilities, those who enjoy the social side of hill running and those who want to compete in races. The Monday evening training runs (or reps) take place in the West End and Southside of Glasgow – meeting at 6:30pm most weeks all year round. The Wednesday evening club runs take place in various hill and off-road locations around Glasgow.

The club organises various hill races across central and southern Scotland and we encourage our members to compete and complete Scottish Hill Running competitions - SHR Championships, Bog & Burn series and the Long Classics marshal at least once a year. We also encourage members to support their sport by marshalling at events. And as the name suggests we also encourage members to compete in Cross Country races.
